Description

Environmental studies

  • Liaise with applicable stakeholders to define and develop the scope of work for environmental studies to support permitting activities for operations in Namibia
  • Ensure selection of competent consultants for the execution of EIA, EBS, etc. in line with company standard and any applicable country regulations
  • Follow up with relevant regulatory bodies for approval of environmental screening or activities as may be applicable
  • Project manage the environmental assessment process and its deliverables Coordinate and facilitate field work as office-based company representative and ensure timely completion
  • Ensure that environmental studies are carried out in line with statutory guidelines and company specifications
  • Track progress of studies and assessments and prepare periodic reports for management
  • Ensure that any changes to environmental permitting regulations are tracked and reported to HSE Manager

Environmental & social management plans

  • Act as project manager for the development of Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP’s)
  • Ensure that the ESMP’s are developed in compliance with company specifications and applicable national regulations
  • Provide advice to operational entities on the requirements of ESMP’s and assist where required in ensuring that operational contractors are aware of and trained in the requirements
  • Coordinate preparation of ESMP close-out and ensure quality and timely submission to authorities

Environmental reporting

  • Develop and supervise waste management workflows ensuring that environmental and best practice standards including company specifications and local regulations are met
  • Set up environmental performance reporting protocols with operational entities and sites and ensure that accurate environmental performance reporting is received
  • Carry out timely environmental performance reporting to both internal and external stakeholders

Environmental coordination

  • Assist in or lead HSE audits where required
  • Provide expertise in local and international environmental and permitting regulations
  • Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of the organisation, of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice.
  • Train staff at all levels in environmental issues and responsibilities.
  • Implement and track the Sustainable goals of the entity
  • Track the budget related to above activities
  • Serve as a member of the crisis or emergency management team to advise on environmental related issues.
  • Develop and implement the company biodiversity action plan
  • Any other duties as may be delegated

Accountabilities

  • Ensure a high level of reliability and quality on the performed activities
  • Ensure environmental studies are performed in compliance with company requirements and local regulation

Requirements

  • Degree in Environmental Science or related subject, Master’s degree a plus
  • 10 years relevant experience with at least 5 gained in environmental studies and ESIA
  • In depth knowledge of environmental and permitting regulations
  • In depth technical knowledge and experience in application of good international industry practice
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Strong ethics and reliability
  • Excellent active listening and presentation skills
  • High interest in energy sector and environmental fields
