Description

We are seeking an On-Site Project Manager - Quality Control for Solar PV Projects in the Karas region. This is an 18-month contract position responsible for ensuring quality control throughout the solar PV project The project will take place in a remote location, 25km South of Karasburg. Due to the remoteness and isolation, it would be beneficial if the role can be filled with 2x personnel so they can take turns on attendance. This will reduce the risk of absence from site.

The company is a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, committed to delivering high-quality solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. We are seeking an experienced On-Site Project Manager to oversee the quality control aspects of our projects, specifically those involving ground-mounted solar PV systems, a large Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and utility network integration.

The On-Site Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation and quality assurance of solar PV projects. This role requires a proactive leader who will engage with various stakeholders, validate stock deliveries, and uphold strong Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) principles throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in construction, solar energy, and related fields, with a focus on delivering high-quality, efficient projects.

The ideal candidate for the On-Site Project Manager position in this remote project site will possess a unique combination of skills, experience, and traits that enable them to effectively manage challenges associated with working in isolated environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stock Verification: Confirm the accurate delivery of materials and equipment, coordinating with suppliers and vendors to rectify any discrepancies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with engineers, contractors, clients, and local authorities to facilitate transparent communication and ensure alignment on project goals and timelines.
  • Project Coordination: Oversee on-site activities, ensure adherence to project schedules, and manage resources effectively to meet project deadlines.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of quality control assessments, safety incidents, and project progress; prepare regular reports for senior management.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve any issues that arise during project execution, ensuring minimal impact on project timelines and outcomes.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management within the construction or renewable energy sectors, specifically with solar PV installations.
  • Proven experience with large-scale BESS projects and utility network integration is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and practices in a construction environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to managing project challenges.

Software Skills Required:

    • Project Management Software: Proficiency in tools like Microsoft Project or similar for scheduling and resource management.
    • Communication Tools: Experience using collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams, Slack, or Zoom for stakeholder engagement and communication.
    • CAD Software: Basic understanding of AutoCAD or similar design software for interpreting project plans and layouts.
    • Data Analysis and Reporting Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis software for tracking project performance metrics and generating reports.
