Description

The Working Foreman is responsible for optimizing workshop production by leading and supporting technicians in real-time to ensure safe, high-quality, and cost-effective job performance. This role involves coordinating with Service Advisors for effective work planning, monitoring production, identifying and resolving deviations, and continuously improving workshop operations.

You will lead daily planning and follow-up meetings, allocate work based on technician competencies and workshop capacity, and ensure that jobs are executed in compliance with safety, health, and environmental (SHE) regulations. You will also play a key role in coaching and supporting technicians, managing tool and equipment readiness, communicating across departments, and test-driving vehicles when required.

Key interfaces include customers, the warranty department, sales teams, finance representatives, and body-builders to ensure service excellence, brand integrity, and fulfillment of technical obligations.

Workshop Production & Leadership

  • Optimize workflow through real-time job allocation and prioritization.

  • Ensure compliance with SHE regulations and customer requirements.

  • Monitor work progress, re-plan as needed, and manage deviations.

  • Review and validate work orders according to policies and procedures.

  • Provide on-the-job support and technical guidance to technicians.

  • Maintain workshop cleanliness and readiness.

Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain continuous communication with Service Advisors, customers, and other departments.

  • Coordinate with the Parts team to ensure part availability.

  • Represent the workshop in daily pulse meetings and planning sessions.

Workshop Planning & Development

  • Develop and implement routines for resource allocation, deviation spotting, and operational planning.

  • Ensure tool calibration and infrastructure readiness.

  • Recommend improvements in services, campaigns, or workshop processes.

Operational Support

  • Conduct vehicle test drives when required.

  • Stand in for the Parts Supervisor as needed.

  • Contribute to warranty-related decisions and brand image protection.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12.

  • Leadership or team leader training.

  • Previous experience in an automotive workshop or related technical environment.

Licensing

  • Valid driver’s license (with specific licenses for certain test drives, e.g., ADR).

Professional Competencies

  • Proven ability to lead, support, and organize workshop activities.

  • In-depth knowledge of automotive repair, maintenance techniques, and diagnostics.

  • Strong understanding of SHE regulations and compliance standards.

  • Familiarity with workshop systems, services, and digital tools.
