Description

Africa Personnel Services, on behalf of its client, is looking for an Accountant (Senior) in the oil and gas industry. This position involves managing complex financial reporting, ensuring compliance, guiding junior staff, and assisting management with strategic financial decisions.

Core Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Closing

  • Month/Year-End Close: Manage and execute the full month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing process in a timely and accurate manner.
  • General Ledger (GL) Management: Perform complex GL account reconciliations and analysis, ensuring accuracy and proper classification of all accounts.
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare and review core financial statements (Balance Sheets, Income Statements, Cash Flow Statements) and supporting schedules in compliance with IFRS.
  • Audit Support: Act as a primary contact for internal and external auditors, preparing required schedules, supporting documentation, and addressing audit inquiries.
  1. Analysis and Compliance
  • Variance Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of financial results, comparing actual performance against budget and forecast, and providing detailed explanations for variances to management.
  • Technical Accounting: Research and interpret complex accounting guidance, ensuring the company's financial practices remain compliant with current accounting standards.
  • Tax Compliance: Assist in the preparation of corporate tax filings and ensure compliance with various tax regulations.
  • Internal Controls: Maintain and document robust internal controls over financial reporting (SOX compliance, if applicable) and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  1. Leadership and Mentorship
  • Review and Oversight: Review the work of Junior Accountants, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and routine reports, ensuring accuracy and proper coding.
  • Training: Train and mentor junior staff on accounting principles, software usage, and internal procedures.

Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in existing accounting processes and recommend/implement streamlined procedures and controls.

Requirements

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably from a large public accounting firm or a medium-to-large-sized corporation.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
  • Certification: CA, CMA, ACCA, or CIMA certification (or actively pursuing) is highly preferred and often required.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, modeling, pivot tables) and expert experience with major ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (IFRS).
  • Competencies: Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills, with proven ability to lead tasks and manage tight deadlines.
