Description
Africa Personnel Services, on behalf of its client, is looking for an Accountant (Junior) in the oil and gas industry. This role is crucial for ensuring the financial integrity and compliance of the organization, and it typically operates under the supervision of a Senior Accountant. The Junior Accountant is responsible for performing foundational accounting tasks, including processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and managing ledgers. They ensure all financial data is accurately recorded and assist the senior team in the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
⚓Core Responsibilities
Transaction Processing and Record Keeping
- Journal Entries: Post and process journal entries to the General Ledger (GL) to ensure all business transactions are accurately recorded.
- Accounts Payable (AP): Process vendor invoices, reconcile vendor statements, and manage company payments.
- Accounts Receivable (AR): Update accounts receivable records, process customer invoices, and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Data Management: Maintain and update financial data in accounting software and databases (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Sage, or Tally) to ensure information is timely and accurate.
- Reconciliation and Reporting
- Reconciliations: Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of bank statements, credit card transactions, and other GL accounts to resolve discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting Assistance: Assist Senior Accountants in preparing fundamental financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Reports: Prepare and submit routine financial reports (e.g., spending reports, cash flow summaries) for management review.
- Compliance and Audit Support
- Month/Year-End Close: Support the senior team in the month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Compliance: Help ensure compliance with established accounting principles (IFRS) and relevant financial regulations.
- Audit Support: Assist in internal and external audits by gathering and providing necessary financial documentation and evidence.
- Payroll: Assist with reviewing payroll records and processing employee expenses, as needed.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (essential).
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in an accounting or finance role, including relevant internships.
- Certification (Bonus): Pursuing or possessing a professional qualification (e.g., CA, ACCA, CIMA) is a strong advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles and practices.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced competency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and familiarity with accounting software packages (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks).
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to recording transactions and reviewing data for accuracy.
- Analytical Skills: Strong numerical and analytical skills with an aptitude for problem-solving.
- Organization: Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.
