Description
The mining supervisor represents the mine owner on site and is responsible for leading supervising and monitoring the mining contractor’s daily activities in the open pit pilot pit. The role ensures that all mining operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the contract, mine plan, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure mining operations, health and safety objectives and targets are achieved.
- Ensure the health and safety of all mining operations activities are a top priority.
- Ensure mining operation team compliance with safety requirements, if not the Mining Supervisor can decide a stop of work of the subcontractor to fix non safety issues
- Implement safety protocols, monitor compliance, and identify areas for improvement.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and field audits.
- Ensure safe blasting practices and exclusion zones.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Promote a strong safety culture on site.
- Maintain high standards of performance and adopt a proactive approach to Health & Safety issues.
- Review all tasks and documents related to the tasks to ensure all hazards have been identified and relevant controls in place
2. Contractor Supervision & Coordination
- Participate in developing a short term mine plan and scheduling based on weekly plan
- Ensure contractor compliance with the mining contract, scope of work, and agreed KPIs.
- Supervise the mining contractor’s day-to-day field activities.
- Plan open pit activities: bush clearing, topsoil stripping, overburden striping, production drilling, blasting, load and haul.
- Ensure accurate mine plans to support production including support activities like production drilling, blast holes sampling, gamma reading down the hole.
- Manage the mining fleet and ensure optimal selection and availability to the mining operations.
- Verify that adequate manpower and equipment are deployed by the contractor.
3. Operational Oversight
Monitor and oversee contractor performance in:
- Overburden stripping.
- Drilling, sampling, probing and blasting activities.
- Load and haul operations.
- Waste and ore haulage respectively to dumps and stockpiles.
- Crushing and screening operations.
- Attrition operation in the pit.
- Ensures activities follow the approved plan, production schedule, and quality requirements.
- Ensure adherence to the mining contract and highlight any deviations or omissions.
4. Quality Control
- Maintaining high quality standard in mining operations.
- Monitor ore dilution, ore loss, and material segregation.
- Ensure proper grade control and ore/waste separation.
- Verify that crushing and screening meet product specifications.
- Manage and execute statutory inspections of all equipment within area of responsibility i.e., licensing, maintenance, pre-trip inspections of equipment.
5. Reporting & Documentation
- As agreed,
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
- Track contractor performance against plan and KPIs.
- Maintain records of equipment availability, utilization, production, and delays.Report operational issues and risks to management
6. Cost & Productivity Monitoring
- Monitor productivity and identify improvement opportunities.
- Minimize rework, delays, and operational inefficiencies.
- Support cost control by ensuring efficient operations.
7. Communication & Collaboration
- Act the primary field contact between owner and contractor.
- Coordinate with geology, survey and planning teams.
- Participate in planning and review meetings.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Mining engineering or related field.
- Mine supervisor or Blasting Certification, as required by local regulations, will be an added advantage
- 5 -10 years’ experience in open pit mining.
- Experience working with mining contractors.
- Practical knowledge of Drilling, blasting, load & haul, and crushing operations.
- Language: Fluent in English written and spoken.
- Main skills: Methodical, rigorous and organized.
- Valid driving license for site operations.

Work conditions: 10h shift work (5 days/7)
