Description

To provide immediate and professional emergency medical care to employees, contractors, and visitors,in accordance with the guidelines of the Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA) and the requirements of the Ministry of Mines and Energy. The Emergency Care Practitioner – Intermediate plays a vital role in onsite emergency preparedness, occupational health surveillance, and promoting a safe working environment at the plant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Emergency Medical Response

  • Provide timely emergency care to casualties during accidents, medical incidents, or any workplace health emergencies.
  • Perform intermediate-level medical interventions including airway management, intravenous therapy, trauma support, and vital signs monitoring.
  • Ensure stabilization of patients before evacuation or transport to external medical facilities when needed.

Medical Surveillance & Occupational Health Support

  • Conduct routine health monitoring and fitness-to-work assessments for employees.
  • Support occupational health programs including chronic condition monitoring and health risk assessments.
  • Maintain medical records in accordance with confidentiality and HPCNA regulations.

Preparedness & Compliance

  • Participate in emergency drills and incident simulations in collaboration with the HSE and Emergency Response Team (ERT).
  • Ensure medical equipment and ambulance units are fully stocked, calibrated, and operational at all times.
  • Report and document all workplace medical incidents accurately and timeously.

Training & Awareness

  • Provide basic first aid training and health awareness sessions to employees.
  • Actively participate in HSE toolbox talks, campaigns, and wellness initiatives.

Administration & Reporting

  • Complete medical reports and statutory documentation as per regulatory requirements.
  • Submit monthly health activity reports to the HSE Officer and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with all medical protocols and occupational health standards under Namibian law and mining regulations.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Emergency Medical Care (Intermediate level) or equivalent qualification recognized by the Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA).
  • Valid HPCNA registration and license to practice as an Intermediate Life Support (ILS) practitioner.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in emergency response, preferably in mining, industrial, or remote area environments.
  • Current valid driver’s license and ability to operate an ambulance (Code C1).
  • Certified in Intermediate Life Support (ILS) 
  • Knowledge of Namibian Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) regulations, especially within the mining sector, is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, composure under pressure, and recordkeeping skills are essential.
