Description
The Farm Manager/Agronomist is responsible for the overall management and optimization of farm operations, ensuring efficient and profitable production while maintaining sustainable agricultural practices. This role combines hands-on farm management with technical agronomic expertise, focusing on crop health, soil fertility, and yield maximization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of agricultural science, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to sustainable farming.
Responsibilities: Farm Management:
- Planning and Organization:
- Develop and implement annual farm plans, including crop rotations, planting schedules, and resource allocation.
- Manage budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure cost-effective operations.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm equipment and infrastructure.
- Operational Oversight:
- Supervise and coordinate daily farm activities, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and harvesting.
- Manage and train farm staff, ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
- Monitor and manage livestock (if applicable).
- Ensure all activities adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of farm activities, including crop yields, input usage, and weather data.
- Prepare reports on farm performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Supply Chain:
- Manage the purchasing of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other inputs.
- Coordinate the sale and distribution of farm produce.
Agronomy:
- Crop Management:
- Monitor crop health and identify potential problems, such as pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Develop and implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
- Optimize irrigation and fertilization practices to maximize yield and quality.
- Soil Management:
- Conduct soil testing and analysis to determine nutrient levels and soil health.
- Develop and implement soil improvement programs, including cover cropping, composting, and nutrient management.
- Monitor and manage soil moisture and drainage.
- Technical Expertise:
- Stay up-to-date on the latest agricultural technologies and best practices.
- Provide technical advice and recommendations to farm staff.
- Implement precision ag technologies where applicable.
- Sustainability:
- Promote and implement sustainable agricultural practices to protect the environment and conserve resources.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Agricultural Management, or a related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Experience:
- 5 years of experience in farm management and agronomy.
- Proven track record of successful crop production.
- Experience with [Specific crops or farming systems, e.g., organic farming, precision agriculture].
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of crop science, soil science, and agricultural practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in farm management software and data analysis.

- Valid driver's license.
