Job Purpose

To safely and efficiently operate a forklift for the loading, offloading, stacking, movement, and storage of goods within the depot while ensuring compliance with safety regulations, company procedures, and client requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

Forklift Operations

  • Operate a forklift safely and efficiently to load, unload, transport, and stack materials.
  • Move stock, products, and materials to designated storage locations.
  • Assist with receiving and dispatching goods.
  • Ensure accurate handling of products to prevent damage and losses.
  • Stack and arrange goods according to warehouse and client requirements.

Stock Handling and Warehouse Support

  • Assist with stock counts and inventory checks.
  • Verify quantities and condition of goods received and dispatched.
  • Report damaged stock, shortages, or discrepancies immediately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness within the warehouse and yard areas.
  • Assist with general warehouse duties when required.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Conduct daily pre-operational inspections of the forklift.
  • Report mechanical defects, damages, or safety concerns immediately.
  • Ensure forklifts are kept clean and in good working condition.
  • Complete forklift inspection checklists as required.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Follow safe operating procedures and traffic regulations within the depot.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training initiatives.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.

General Duties

  • Assist with loading and offloading of trucks and containers.
  • Support operational requirements during peak periods.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by management.

Requirements

Education

  • Grade 10 (minimum).
  • Grade 12 will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years' experience operating a forklift in a warehouse, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, or similar environment.
  • Experience with loading and offloading trucks is advantageous.

Certification

  • Valid Forklift Operator Certificate.

  • Good understanding of warehouse and stock handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, responsible, and safety-conscious.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
