Description
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of PMO to lead their Project Management Office. This is a senior leadership role responsible for establishing, standardizing, and driving the company’s entire project delivery framework. The role is critical in ensuring the successful execution of complex, multi-million-dollar, multi-vendor projects within the utilities, power, mining, and oil & gas sectors.
As the primary change agent for project management maturity, the Head of PMO will champion continuous improvement in delivery efficiency, profitability, and client satisfaction across the project portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement the long-term vision, mission, and operating model for the PMO, aligning with overall corporate strategy.
- Establish standardized project management methodologies, templates, and tools across all departments.
- Drive change management initiatives and adoption of digital project management systems.
- Oversee the entire project portfolio, ensuring strategic alignment, efficient resource allocation, and investment compliance.
- Provide executive governance and oversight for high-value projects, ensuring delivery is on time and within budget.
- Implement advanced planning and monitoring techniques (WBS, CPM, resource levelling, Earned Value Management).
- Lead contract administration and risk management, with a focus on complex engineering projects and FIDIC-type contracts.
- Manage claims, disputes, and risk mitigation strategies to protect financial and legal interests.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop project management staff, embedding a culture of accountability and performance.
- Serve as the highest point of escalation for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and client satisfaction.
Requirements
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.
- 10+ years’ experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing a PMO or large project portfolio.
- Proven expertise in managing complex, multi-vendor, long-cycle projects (>$50M) in utilities, energy, mining, or industrial sectors.
- Strong experience in administering and negotiating FIDIC contracts.
- Advanced proficiency in project management methodologies (PMP, PRINCE2, Agile) and tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent).
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or related field.
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent certification.
- Track record of digital transformation in project management.
